Donald Trump says Lebanon "been treated very incredibly badly" by Iran and Hezbollah

President Donald Trump, during a White House meeting Tuesday with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, remarked that Lebanon had suffered severely due to Iran and Hezbollah, while voicing optimism that a U.S.-backed framework agreement with Israel could alter the country's trajectory. The visit—the first by a Lebanese leader to the White House since 2009—centered on securing continued American political and military support for the Lebanese Armed Forces as it works to replace Hezbollah’s presence in southern Lebanon. Aoun is also pressing for Israeli troop withdrawals from occupied areas. Trump signaled willingness to speak directly with Hezbollah if it advanced peace and floated Syrian involvement in disarming the group.
