Kaja Kallas stresses "importance of maintaining momentum" toward Cyprus settlement

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas spoke by phone Tuesday with UN envoy Maria Angela Holguin about renewed efforts to resolve the Cyprus dispute. Kallas reaffirmed the EU’s support for UN-led talks and emphasized the necessity of keeping steady progress toward a full agreement. The call occurs as Holguin visits Brussels Wednesday and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres travels to Cyprus next week. Holguin will also meet European Commission envoy Raffaele Fitto and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Guterres is scheduled for separate meetings with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman, followed by a joint session. These diplomatic steps aim to create conditions for restarting formal negotiations, with both sides demanding meaningful outcomes.
