Donald Trump says "There’s a Hezbollah problem" in meeting with Lebanese president
“There’s a Hezbollah problem”
During a White House meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, President Donald Trump announced he would lift a decades-old ban on direct U.S.-Lebanon flights and pledged substantial assistance to the country. The talks focused on a fragile June 26 framework agreement aimed at Israeli troop withdrawal from southern Lebanon and the disarmament of the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah. Trump acknowledged the persistence of Hezbollah as a security challenge, according to reports, and suggested he could personally engage with the group if Aoun desired. The visit, the first by a Lebanese president since 2009, comes amid ongoing U.S.-brokered efforts to stabilize Lebanon after months of war with Israel, though implementation of the pilot withdrawal zones has faced disputes and sporadic gunfire.
