Donald Trump asks “How would you know” after reporter says no signs Iran will halt hostilities

During a White House briefing on Tuesday, a reporter told President Donald Trump that there were no indications Iran was prepared to halt hostilities, and asked what the administration’s strategy was. Trump responded by questioning how the reporter could possibly know that if no signs existed, then added that Iran was “desperate” to negotiate an end to the conflict. The exchange came after the Pentagon confirmed that two U.S. soldiers—Army specialists Tyler James Feehan and Isabella Gonzales—were killed in Iranian strikes in Jordan on Friday and Saturday. Though the troops were part of the anti-ISIS mission Operation Inherent Resolve, Trump has linked their deaths to his administration’s campaign to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, vowing retaliation.
