Donald Trump says deal "will be approved, but is totally subject" to Saudi normalization with Israel
“will be approved, but is totally subject”
President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that his administration’s recently finalized civilian nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia is approved but comes with a binding condition: the kingdom must normalize ties with Israel by joining the Abraham Accords. Trump had formally authorized the deal a day earlier, when U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and his Saudi counterpart signed the 30-year pact, which permits American companies to help develop the kingdom’s nuclear program. The arrangement allows Saudi Arabia to enrich its own reactor fuel but imposes limits on international inspections, according to U.S. officials. Saudi leaders have previously said they would recognize Israel only after the establishment of a Palestinian state, a demand Israel’s prime minister has rejected. The agreement now heads to Congress for review.
