Marco Rubio says "dismantle the threat" from ICC to US sovereignty in new campaign

The International Criminal Court’s member states voted Friday to remove its chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, after sexual misconduct allegations surfaced nearly two years ago—a decision that marked the first ouster of a top ICC official. Khan, who denies the claims, was suspended in June after an oversight report found “serious misconduct.” The removal came as the US escalates pressure on the court: last week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced an effort to counter what he called the ICC’s threat to American sovereignty, urging allies to reject its jurisdiction over US citizens and pledging sanctions and travel bans. Hours after the vote, Venezuela said it would leave the court, citing geographic bias. The US has already sanctioned Khan and others over arrest warrants for Israeli leaders and probes into American personnel.
