Narendra Modi says he will "set up a high-powered task force" to overhaul testing after protests

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Sunday that his government will create a senior committee, headed by Infosys co‑founder Nandan Nilekani, to overhaul India’s testing framework. The decision follows a series of demonstrations organized by the Cockroach Janta Party that gathered thousands of students at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, marking one of the country’s largest recent anti‑government rallies. The protests, focused on alleged exam irregularities, prompted the education minister’s resignation on Saturday and led officials to accept several of the demonstrators’ demands. Modi said the new body will aim to make the assessment system more trustworthy, open and technologically advanced, and will act quickly to restore confidence in upcoming exams.
