Donald Trump says EU is "robbing American companies and, in turn, the American taxpayer" over fines

Donald Trump announced on his social media platform that the United States will begin a Section 301 trade investigation into the European Union and may impose a significant tariff, reacting to the European Commission’s recent fine of roughly €890 million on Google for breaking the Digital Markets Act. Trump accused EU regulators of unfairly targeting American technology firms—specifically Google, Apple, Meta, and Amazon—and claimed those penalties ultimately hurt U.S. taxpayers. He demanded the fines be fully reversed. The threat came one day after Trump announced new tariffs of 10 to 12.5 percent on 60 trading partners, including the EU and UK.
