Brad Smith says "a majority of that interview to be performative" about Colt Gray's interview

During a sentencing hearing for the 2024 Apalachee High School shooting, a lead investigator testified that the teen gunman’s distraught demeanor in a post‑attack interview appeared insincere. Colt Gray, 16, pleaded guilty to 55 counts including murder for the shooting that killed two students and two teachers and wounded nine others. Barrow County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Jason Smith said he believed “a majority of that interview to be performative.” A psychologist who evaluated Gray described a chaotic, neglected upbringing and noted Gray was immersed in an online true‑crime community fixated on mass shooters, possessing thousands of photos of the Parkland attacker. The judge will decide whether Gray serves life with or without parole.
