Emmanuel Macron warns "the coming weeks will be tough" as heat wave fuels massive French wildfires

French President Emmanuel Macron told emergency personnel at a command post in the fire-stricken Gironde forest that the situation ahead would be difficult, as a fourth heat wave intensified blazes that have already displaced roughly 220,000 people in southwestern France. Macron’s warning came after authorities noted the fire was generating its own wind and jumping over a kilometer, with more than 42,000 hectares of woodland burned since last week. The president acknowledged that some evacuees had lost everything, and he called for perseverance while pledging future reforestation.
