Marco Rubio says Coral Garrido "conduct political activity in support of the Petro government"

Secretary of State Marco Rubio formally recommended the deportation of a prominent Colombian activist living in the United States, accusing him of using his American residency to back Colombia’s leftist president and interfere in that country’s democratic process. The activist, Franklin Humberto Coral Garrido — known as Beto Coral — was a vocal online critic of Colombia’s far-right president-elect and had filed criminal charges against him. Coral, who entered the U.S. on a tourist visa in 2015 with a pending asylum application, was arrested at his Phoenix home in June, held in ICE custody for a month, and deported to Colombia in July. According to reports, Rubio’s memo was the first to target an immigrant for deportation based on activity related to a foreign presidential election.
