Donald Trump says "we are 'turning the corner'" on COVID-19, will be under control soon
“keeps saying that we are 'turning the corner' and this will be under control very soon. Press pitting this against what I and other credible scientists are saying.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci’s personal journals, released over the weekend by Senator Rand Paul ahead of a planned hearing, include an entry from October 2020 where the former infectious-disease chief noted that President Donald Trump was repeatedly claiming the COVID-19 outbreak was about to improve and soon be contained. Fauci wrote that the media was contrasting those statements with what he and other legitimate researchers were saying. The diary pages, spanning 2020 to 2022, capture Fauci’s private frustrations with Trump’s downplaying of the pandemic, including comparisons to a difficult teenager, and document their tense exchanges over testing and messaging. Paul, who heads the Senate Homeland Security Committee and has alleged government officials misled the public about COVID-19’s origins—an accusation Fauci has denied—has subpoenaed Fauci to testify Wednesday.
